Warmer in fellowship

We have recently formed "Free Market" groups which are open not only to Orchards Church members, but to friends they bring along and to everyone in the Orchards Neighborhood. They provide an opportunity to get to know each other better and build friendships. "Free Market" implies that the law of supply and demand reigns. IF we have people who want to join a group, and IF there is someone who is willing to lead a group, THEN we have a group. The groups re-form every quarter on the same basis.

In the first quarter of 2011, the following groups are getting together:

Quilt Nite!  Meets first and third Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in the Orchards Adventist Church Family Room. Women, and men too, are welcome to bring any needlework project they are working on, and enjoy the warm friendship of the group.

Community Service  Meets every second and fourth Wednesday from 9:30 am to 3 pm in the Family Room. Men and women work on various projects to be of service to our Orchards Neighborhood: making quilts for babies in need; assembling food baskets; and whatever other service projects anyone wishes to suggest.

Mommy and Me  Meets on the third Tuesday from 10 to 11, in the Family Room. We work on fun projects together.

Scrapbooking Group  Meets in the Family Room at 2:15 pm on the second and fourth Sundays. We all enjoy working on putting together pages for our own scrapbooks, which we never seem to find time for at home.

Photography: The Art of Seeing  Beginning and intermediate photographers are learning what it takes to move from average photos to eye-catching, story-telling photos. Class meets on the second and fourth Thursdays at 6 pm.

Diabetic Support Group   Getting a grip on what it takes to live successfully with diabetes, and helping one another through the rough times. Meets in the Mother's Room on the second Sunday at 2 pm.

Full Plate Diet Group  Meets in the Youth room, Thursday evenings at 7 pm. They are learning how to incorporate more fiber into their diets in order to control their weight, manage diabetes, lose belly fat and much more. Group ends in February after 8 meetings.

Sidewalk Kids Hour  In JULY our youth lead out in a weekly, late-afternoon program called "Sidewalk Kids Hour," staged from a unique red trailer 1) in the Orchards Park, for all the kids in the Orchards Neighborhood; 2) at a park near the Riverside SDA Church in Washougal; and 3) on the grounds of the school on Mac Arthur Blvd., about 4 blocks east of Andresen. The children enjoy skits, stories, creative Bible learning activities, games and prizes. We serve a light supper afterwards to all the families that come. In 2010, our youth presented the entire program, including a continued play each week.

A Night in Bethlehem   In DECEMBER 2008 we were prepared to present "A Night in Bethlehem" a fun outdoor, walk-though nativity event for our neighborhood, when a blizzard forced its cancellation. What a disappointment! But the whole church worked together to stage it in 2009 and 2010. Each year it's getting better! Watch for the direction signs in the Orchards neighborhood pointing to the next one on the first Friday and Saturday evenings in December 2011.
